Apprentice Position Details


  • Plumbing apprentices work under the direction of journeymen and are responsible for assembly, install, or repair of pipes, fittings, or fixtures of heating, water, or drainage systems, according to specifications or plumbing codes
Essential Job Functions:
  • Adhere to safety procedures
  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing, valves, fixtures, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment
  • Transporting various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site
  • Inspect structures to assess material or equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, or to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring
  • Use relevant information and individual judgement to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
  • Ability to perform multiple, technical tasks simultaneously
  •  Specific skill-based competencies are required including: operating equipment, adhering to safety practices and planning and manning projects. 
  • Plumbing apprentices are required to complete periodic written and practical exams based off an established schedule.  Apprentices are required to complete all school work on time.
